Prayer + Gratitude Jar
A Simple Way to Help Kids Talk to God
The Prayer & Gratitude Jar is a gentle tool to help children learn how to pray and give thanks. Each prompt offers a simple idea to guide prayer, reminding kids that they can talk to God honestly, openly, and in their own words.
This is not about praying perfectly, it’s about building a habit of turning to God every day.
What You’ll Need
- A small jar or container(A mason jar, recycled jar, cup, or small box works perfectly.)
- The Prayer & Gratitude prompt printable (download below)
- Printer paper or cardstock
- Scissors
- (Optional) crayons, markers, or stickers to decorate the jar and prompts
Printing & Cutting Directions
- Download and print the Prayer & Gratitude prompt sheet.
- For best results, print on cardstock, but regular paper works just fine.
- Cut along the lines to separate each prompt.
- Place all prompts into your jar or container.
How to Use
- Choose a quiet moment as a family (before bed, after a meal, or during devotion time).
- Have one child (or parent) pull a prompt from the jar.
- Read the prompt out loud.
- Pray together or silently, using your own words.
- Place the prompt back into the jar when finished.
A Note for Parents
- Short prayers are okay.
- Listening quietly counts as participation.
- There is no right or wrong way to pray.
The goal is consistency, not perfection.
This simple practice helps children grow comfortable with prayer, develop gratitude, and understand that God wants to hear from them, anytime, anywhere.
