From Little Honey to Steadfast: Watching Faith Grow
Faith rarely grows all at once. It develops slowly, through time, experience, and daily trust in God. Just like a child who begins small and gradually matures, faith begins with simple understanding and grows into something steady and strong.
Every believer moves through seasons of spiritual growth. In the beginning the understanding of God is simple. Over time that understanding deepens, roots grow stronger, and faith becomes something that stands firm even when life becomes difficult.
Watching faith grow is one of the most beautiful parts of the Christian life.
Faith Begins Small
For many people, faith begins with the simplest truths of Scripture: God created the world. Jesus loves us. The Bible is God’s Word.
These truths may seem basic, but they are powerful foundations. The earliest moments of faith often happen through learning Bible stories, hearing Scripture, and beginning to understand who God is.
Jesus used the example of a mustard seed when He spoke about faith. Matthew 17:20 says, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
A mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds, yet it grows into a large plant. Faith begins in the same way. Small moments of belief and trust eventually grow into a strong and lasting relationship with God.
Faith Begins to Grow
As people continue to learn about God, their faith begins to grow deeper. Questions begin to form. Understanding becomes clearer. Scripture starts to shape the way a person thinks and lives. This is the stage where faith develops roots.
Colossians 2:6-7 explains this growth, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
Roots grow beneath the surface where they cannot be seen. In the same way, spiritual growth often happens quietly. Reading the Bible, spending time in prayer, and learning from God’s Word strengthens faith over time. The deeper the roots grow, the stronger the faith becomes.
Faith Learns to Stand
As faith matures, it begins to shape the way people respond to life’s challenges. Trust in God becomes more than a simple belief. It becomes a steady confidence that God is faithful. Life brings trials, disappointments, and seasons of uncertainty. During those moments, faith is tested and strengthened.
1 Corinthians 16:13 says, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
Standing firm in faith does not mean life becomes easy. It means choosing to trust God even when circumstances are difficult. This stage of faith shows strength and endurance.
Faith Becomes Steadfast
Over time, faith becomes steady and deeply rooted. It has been shaped by experience, prayer, and a growing understanding of God’s character. A steadfast faith is not easily shaken. It has learned to trust God through both good seasons and hard ones.
James 1:12 says, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
Steadfast faith grows through perseverance. It grows through trusting God again and again. Each challenge becomes another opportunity to rely on Him.
Watching Faith Grow
One of the greatest encouragements in the Christian life is seeing faith grow over time.
A child who once knew only simple Bible stories begins to understand deeper truths. A new believer who once had many questions begins to help others grow. Someone who once struggled to trust God begins to stand firm in faith. Spiritual growth does not happen overnight. It happens through daily faithfulness.
Through reading Scripture.
Through prayer.
Through learning.
Through trusting God one day at a time.
Every stage of faith is important.
Faith Is a Lifelong Journey
No matter where someone is in their walk with God, He continues to work in their life. Some are just beginning to learn about Him. Others are growing deeper in their understanding of Scripture. Still others are standing firm with a faith that has been strengthened through many seasons.
Philippians 1:6 gives this promise, “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Faith may begin small, but through God’s work it grows into something strong, steady, and steadfast. Every step of that growth shows the faithful work of God in the lives of His people.
