Helping Kids Grow Closer to God in Everyday Life

    May 20, 2026May 19, 2026 Journal, Resources for Parents

One of the biggest misconceptions about raising kids in faith is thinking every moment has to feel deep, planned, or picture-perfect. It doesn’t. Most children grow spiritually through small, repeated moments they experience over and over again. A prayer before bed. A Bible story at the kitchen table….

Building a faith-filled home does not usually happen in big, dramatic moments. Most of the time, it happens quietly. It happens during slow mornings around the kitchen table. It happens in small prayers before difficult days. It happens while talking about God during everyday conversations or reading a…

Some of the most meaningful faith moments happen during ordinary life. Kids do not need perfection. They need consistency, love, and people willing to point them toward Jesus in everyday moments.

The little things matter more than we realize.

Recently, I talked to a friend whose baby isn’t so Recently, I talked to a friend whose baby isn’t so much a baby anymore. He’s growing up, going to middle school, and I know her mama heart is aching, because honestly, time is a thief.

I’ve had the privilege of watching her son grow up over the last few years since he’s in my kids group at church and good friends with my daughter, who is also growing up way too quickly for my liking.

And sometimes motherhood feels bittersweet in that way. You spend years praying for them to grow, learn, and become independent… then suddenly it happens right in front of you.

Many times in my own family, I feel like I’m failing my child. I replay moments in my mind wondering if I’m doing enough or leading well enough.

Then I look over and see the person she’s becoming, much like our sweet friend.

Their little concentrated faces during church. Their giggles with friends. Their growing personalities. The kindness they show others. The small ways their faith is beginning to take root.

And I’m reminded that maybe God is doing more in the ordinary moments than we realize.

Motherhood is beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. But what a gift it is to watch these little lives grow.

Faith is often built in small, ordinary moments.

A Bible opened at the kitchen table, a worship song playing in the background, or just simple moments that continue pointing our families back to Jesus.

Praying together, reading Scripture, speaking kindly, serving others, and trusting God through every season all point our hearts back to Him.

Life pulls our attention in so many directions.
Responsibilities, pressure, plans, distractions. But Ecclesiastes 12:13 brings everything back to something simple.

Stay close to God. Follow Him wholeheartedly. So many things in life change, but God remains steady through all of it.

Life gets loud. There are so many things competing for our attention every day that it becomes easy to slowly drift without even realizing it.

Joshua 1:8 reminds us to stay rooted in God’s Word. Not perfectly. Just consistently. Small moments with God matter more than we realize.
